My First Ui-Cha! Encounter

The first time I heard about Ui-Cha! was when I found a job add on Craigslist. The ad was looking for a marketing designer for this new Vietnamese restaurant in Missoula, and I was surprised to find it.

I just graduated from the U of M with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts. One would think it’d be easy to find a job in that field. It is easy… if you live anywhere other than Missoula. I was seriously considering moving to Seattle before I came across Ui-Cha!

Ui-Cha! Food Court signWhen I first read the add, I thought, “This is great! A design job in Missoula, and on campus even!” I was very excited about the prospect of being part of a marketing team and being able to put my art skills to good use. It got better when I received an email from the managers requesting we meet for an interview. It wasn’t until I got to the UC, however, that I realized I had no idea who I was looking for. I’d never even seen the managers! It was only by luck that I saw another future team member discussing photography with an Asian looking man. Shortly after I would learn that the man was Cuong Huynh, one of the managers and my future boss.

Needless to say, the interview went very well and I was brought in on the team the very next week. So far it has been a wonderful learning experience. This is a great opportunity to help bring something new and unique to the U of M campus.

I was totally clueless when I was applying for the job at Ui Cha! I thought, “what the heck is Pho Destiny and Ui Cha? A camera store?” No, absolutely not, but that’s what I thought it was when I saw the employment ad on the UM website. Why I thought it was a camera store I have no idea. All I knew is that someone needed a marketing person to join their team and I wanted to be that someone! Marketing is what I am majoring in, this is the type of experience I want and need, and at the time it didn’t even matter what kind of business it was. Thankfully it’s a pho restaurant and I will be promoting the best restaurant on campus while stuffing my face all year long!
