The first time I heard about Ui-Cha! was when I found a job add on Craigslist. The ad was looking for a marketing designer for this new Vietnamese restaurant in Missoula, and I was surprised to find it.
I just graduated from the U of M with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts. One would think it’d be easy to find a job in that field. It is easy… if you live anywhere other than Missoula. I was seriously considering moving to Seattle before I came across Ui-Cha!
When I first read the add, I thought, “This is great! A design job in Missoula, and on campus even!” I was very excited about the prospect of being part of a marketing team and being able to put my art skills to good use. It got better when I received an email from the managers requesting we meet for an interview. It wasn’t until I got to the UC, however, that I realized I had no idea who I was looking for. I’d never even seen the managers! It was only by luck that I saw another future team member discussing photography with an Asian looking man. Shortly after I would learn that the man was Cuong Huynh, one of the managers and my future boss.
Needless to say, the interview went very well and I was brought in on the team the very next week. So far it has been a wonderful learning experience. This is a great opportunity to help bring something new and unique to the U of M campus.
